DIY Conservatories, Conservatory Kits and Conservatory Steel Bases from Dream

Which Glass Do You Need To Specify In DIY Conservatories?

Glass is an integral part of all DIY conservatories.  You will typically have a lot more glass than you will have walls, since many designs have just a dwarf wall running along the base of the building.

It makes sense then to ensure you choose the right glass for your needs.  When you are considering buying a flat pack kit from a manufacturer don’t be afraid to ask what kind of glass is supplied as standard.

For example, lots of companies who are working to the required building standards will supply toughened safety glass as standard.  This is particularly important with the windows and doors, since they are the areas in which you are liable to have an accident if one is to occur.

Toughened glass will be much harder to break than standard glass so you really need to have this in place.  It’s easy to think you only need it if you have young children, but we can all have mishaps so you want to make sure your DIY conservatory has it wherever you need it.  And since many conservatories are used as playrooms for the kids, you can see that there is a definite advantage to having this glass in place.

There are other considerations to bear in mind with your glass as well. DIY  Conservatories are renowned for being very hot in the summer months and unbearably cold when winter rolls around.  Needless to say it pays to be as efficient as possible in this respect, as it will lead you to use the room a lot more often if it is comfortable for most of the year.

Some companies offer sealed glass units that are filled with Argon gas.  This leads to a much better thermal performance than standard units have, so it is worth spending more on these if you have the budget to do so.

Put simply if you have this more advanced type of glass in your DIY conservatory, you can look forward to having a room that can be used more often and more comfortably as well.

If you don’t pay enough attention to the glass you use, or you try to be too cheap with what you buy, you will end up with the ‘too hot, too cold’ situation that makes some conservatories unusable.

Experienced owners of these DIY conservatories would probably jump at the chance of changing the glass they have in place.  If you want to get the best out of your conservatory you need to make sure you find out all you can about the glass you are going to have.  Always get the answers you need and don’t be afraid to ask questions either.
