It makes perfect sense that you would want to make the most of every season, no matter what the weather throws at us. And a DIY conservatory is a great room to enjoy all year round.
But it pays to make sure you have the right elements in place in your conservatory to make it habitable all year round. If you don’t you could find yourself feeling chilly in the winter and too warm in the summer. So if you are thinking of adding a new DIY conservatory to your home, bear the following points in mind.
Firstly, under floor heating is ideal for the winter. Not only do you get some benefit from the heat rising from the floor, you will also be able to walk out into your DIY conservatory with bare feet – even if it is snowing outside. It is definitely worth installing this kind of heating in your self-build conservatory as you will really notice the absence of it if you don’t.
Of course there are other ways of heating your self-build conservatory too. You can get special conservatory heaters which are unobtrusive and yet provide all the heat you will need in the space you have. They are typically long and low, so they will fit underneath a window on the low wall which forms the base of many self-build conservatories. You can also buy freestanding heaters which can be moved around to provide heat wherever you should need it.
It is also important when you are deciding which self-build conservatory to have to opt for Heat Shield Glass. If your conservatory faces the south this is even more important. This is because if you have normal glass your conservatory will be unbearable in the summer. Heat Shield glass will cause some of the sun’s rays to bounce off and go back into the atmosphere, instead of being sucked into your conservatory.
You also need to think about the amount of light your conservatory will bring in. Obviously the more glass you have the more light you will get. This can be a distinct advantage during the winter when the sun is out but it is cold outside. It makes your conservatory feel warmer and lighter and that makes it more desirable to use.
Of course one other advantage of having a lot of light and warmth in your conservatory during the winter is that you will be able to grow some wonderful plants all year round. Some plants like the atmosphere and conditions offered by a conservatory more than others, but once you have chosen the right ones you can enjoy greenery in your DIY conservatory all year.
So as you can see your DIY conservatory can be set up to appeal to you for the whole year. And with the conditions just right for you, you can use the room for many different purposes as well.
